Tips For Making Your Home Into A Sanctuary

Create A Dedicated Workspace

This could be a separate room, a corner of your bedroom (although working in your bedroom is bad Feng Shui, so try to avoid this if possible), a place in the guest room or the dining room table.  To get you into a productive frame of mind, use this space or desk solely for your work.

Communicate Everyone’s Needs

Talk to everyone in your home about what they need and what a sanctuary looks like for them.

Add Meaningful Touches

Put flowers and a diffuser on your desk to instantly invoke a sense of peace and to signal that this is your space.  Put up framed quotes where you can see them for motivation.  Create a mirage of escape.

Look To Your Senses

  • What do you love? This might be anything from the ocean to freshly baked banana bread.
  • What sights help you to feel calm? This might be a photo of your loved ones and a bowl of bright navel oranges.
  • What do you love to feel? It could be your beloved cat and a soft blanket.
  • What sounds help you to feel safe and connected? It might be listening to church music or the wind.
  • What do you love to taste? This might be anything from your grandmother’s cookies to a juicy grapefruit

Create A Zen Zone

Creating a specific spot in your home solely for relaxation helps you to cultivate a habit of relaxation.

This space can be anywhere – your spare bedroom, bathroom, walk-in-closet, balcony or a porch.  Add soft blankets, fluffy pillows, lighting, plants and flowers.

Place a chair and a side table in your bedroom that’s dedicated to journaling, meditation and drinking your morning coffee.

Make a Sensory Box

Use this in your zen zone.  Use a storage container to house items that calm and comfort you.

Focus On lighting

During the day, open up the blinds and curtains to let in natural sunlight.  In the early morning and evening, use candlelight to increase the sanctuary feel.
