Get The Motivation To Do Your Housework
Cleaning your house is really one of those jobs that never ends! So, how do we stay on top of things? How do we get the motivation to do our housework?
Over 27 years of raising my children and working, I have found a few ways to motivate me to get started and make it feel like I’m making some progress. Hopefully these little tricks will help you also.
CLEANING MOTIVATION
Clear The Clutter
This is one of the best ways to get motivated. The less you own the easier your home will be to keep clean and tidy. It really works! Every few months, have a good purge and get rid of anything you no longer need or use. Not only will it make you feel better, the housework will get done quicker too because there will be less to put away.
Create A Cleaning Routine
This can be a game changer. Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t always do everything on the day you plan to. Having a routine makes life much easier. When you know what you need to do for the day, you are more likely to get it done. Break chores down into manageable chunks will help with this. It can feel overwhelming to clean the whole house from top to bottom in one go.
When you do a little each day, it doesn’t feel so bad. If you stick to a routine the best you can, at the end of the week you will know everything is done.
GETTING THE CLEANING MOTIVATION
Start With The Easiest Task First
Ask yourself which job is going to be the quickest to do and which one will make you feel like you have made the most progress. Start with that one.
You will feel as though you have accomplished something and find the motivation to keep going.
Tackle One Room At A Time
You will never feel like you are making progress if you go from room to room and do a bit here and a bit there. Tackle one room at a time. Do everything you need to do in one room. Then sit back and admire your work. This will motivate you to tackle the next room and so on…
Give Everything A Proper Home
When our things don’t have a proper home, this is one of the biggest reasons our houses can get messy. It might be time to sort out your storage. This will make an amazing difference in helping you keep things clean and tidy.
Clean out drawers and cupboards. Ask yourself where is it’s real home for all of your STUFF. If you can’t think of anywhere, chances are you probably don’t need it and you can get rid of it.
Set A Timer
To challenge yourself, set a timer, especially if it’s a job you don’t want to do. Have a reward waiting for yourself. It may sound a little bit silly, but it works!
Don’t let yourself get distracted.
Make A Cleaning Playlist
This is guaranteed to motivate you. Make it full of upbeat songs that you can’t help but sing and dance to you. This will put you in a good mood and fire you up to clean. Before you know it, your housework will be done. This is also a great workout.
Listen To Podcasts And Audiobooks
Podcasts and audiobooks can be great motivators. This may be the only time you get to catch up on them also. You will become engrossed in what you are listening and this will make your housework a breeze. Your housework will feel much more interesting instead of a daunting task.
Invite A Friend Over
There is nothing quite like a bit of pressure when you know a friend is coming over. This will make you get things done before they arrive. You will be amazed at how quickly you can clean a house when you know your friend is coming over for a visit.
